Chernivtsi National University, one of the leading higher educational institutions in Ukraine, was founded in 1875. In 2008 Chernivtsi University was accredited with the highest IV level of accreditation. Since January 15th, 2009, CHNU was granted a full individual membership in European University Association. Today in the university there are 16 colleges, 71 departments, 16.000 students majoring in 67 areas. Academic and research work is provided by over 900 professors, and 6 Specialized Scientific Boards on candidate and doctoral dissertations defence. In 2010 there was established the Research Institute of European Integration and Regional Studies, which became the first research institute in the University’s structure. University Library has Center of European Information, supported with EC representation in Ukraine. In 2011, CHNU got 7 International grants, including entering into international consortia in the framework of TEMPUS & Erasmus Mundus.
